This Robert August Wingnut had last
come to see me 5 1/2 years ago with a fin gash on the aft rail. I was
baffled by the veneer, finally settling on Ash (it later turned out to
be a custom, man-made variety - I did not stand a chance). Back then, I
spent many hours carefully letting in the new veneer, then relying on
copious amounts of fiberglass to provide structural continuity.
Somewhere along the way I decided that scarph joints
were not only structurally superior, but easier to make, as well as more
pleasing to the beholder.
